'This foundation reflects the true values of the Sodje family and aims to inspire and empower children and youth as a result of promoting education and life skills through sport. Born from the desire to give back to their local community in the Niger Delta, The Sodje Sports Foundation aims to utilise existing resources to create opportunities for long term positive change.'
SSF plans to extend its helping hand mainly to the inhabitants of the Warri Delta State, a major oil city in Delta State Nigeria. Despite the Delta State being one of the major ports for the exportation of oil and other raw materials the country still has its problems. The average inhabitant of Deltans lives on under $2/day which has consequences that affect the country on a much wider scale. The people of the Delta state just like the rest of the country suffer from insecurities and constant anxieties born from fear and political instability that in some cases can keep its children out of schools and see their youths turning to crime as a way to support themselves and their families. These are the people SSF intend to help, the people who don't necessarily benefit from the reputation and popularity of this oil rich state.
The mission of the foundation is to help countries to develop from within, starting with the empowerment of the young people who are the future of these underdeveloped countries. Over the past decade, the Sodje brothers have regularly donated football kits and sport equipment, as well as coaching lessons to the youth of the Delta State.
However, while the need for more equipment is essential, the lack of infrastructure also poses a challenge which SSF intends to address. It is therefore an ambition of the Foundation to not only provide material and expertise but also the necessary infrastructure within which these skills can be taught and/or practised
